1. IntroductionFlexibility is an important component of overall fitness |
2. NeckThe seven cervical vertebrae along with associated muscles and ligaments make up the flexible framework of the neck. |
3. Shoulders, Back, and ChestThere are five major pairs of movements at the shoulder: (1) flexion and extension, (2) abduction and adduction, (3) external and internal rotation, (4) retraction and protraction, and (5) elevation and depression |
4. Arms, Wrists, and HandsThe major joint of the arm, the elbow, is made up of three bones. The humerus (upper arm) is located proximal to the body while the radius and ulna (forearm) lie distally. |
5. Lower TrunkThe 12 thoracic vertebrae, 5 lumbar vertebrae, sacrum, ribs, and pelvic bones along with associated muscles and ligaments make up the flexible framework of the trunk. |
6. HipsThe pelvic and the femur bones form the skeletal structure in the hip region of the body |
7. Knees and ThighsThe skeletal structure of the upper leg and knee is made up of the tibia and fibula (lower leg) and the femur (upper leg). |
8. Feet and CalvesThe skeletal structure of the lower leg and foot is made up of the long tibia and fibula bones found in the lower leg and the small foot bones called tarsals, metatarsals, and phalanges. |
